A fue (flute) performer in the TÔSHA School, from an early age TÔSHA studied nagauta and piano. At the age of 12 she began flute lessons. In 1983 TÔSHA began lessons with TÔSHA Suiho, now TÔSHA Meisho II. In 1987 TÔSHA graduated from Doshisha University with a degree from the department of culture, art, and esthetics. After studying fue(flute) as a live-in apprentice (uchi-deshi), in 1990 she was given the name TÔSHA Rio. Since then her career has included traditional classical music concerts, performing the fue (flute) for classical dance (buyô), contemporary Japanese music concerts, joint concerts with western instruments, and solo performances that include her own compositions. TÔSHA has appeared on NHK TV for the program: "Koten Geinô (Classical Arts) Appreciation," TV Asahi: "Daimei no Nai Ongaku Kai" (a Concert without a Title), and the NHK radio program: "Hôgaku 100 Ban (Top One Hundred Selections in Hôgaku) ." TÔSHA has performed for Prince Mikasanomiya Tomohito. She is a member of Nagauta Association, the hayashi group, "Mashihokai," and the hôgaku hayashi group "Shin no Kai." She also organizes and leads the group, "Fue: Rio no Kai." TÔSHA is an instructor at the Shizuoka NHK Cultural center. She studied nagauta shamisen under KINEYA Yasu, KINEYA Rokuji, KINEYA Rokusumi, and KINEYA Rokushige-e. TÔSHA was given the name KINEYA Mariko. She belongs to the " Kion Kai."  In addition, TÔSHA studied Ogie under Ogie Jyuyû II. In 2006 she was given the name Ogie Jyushô. In 2008 Tosha Rio released her first solo CD of original music, "Tenkai Ichie".She also participated in a concert held in Paris to celebrate 150 years of friendship between France and Japan.
